Google+ Executive Rips Facebook’s Advertising Initiatives

An executive who oversees Google+ believes recent advertising initiatives at Facebook are annoying users. In an interview Wednesday, Google Vice President of Product for Google+ Bradley Horowitz, spoke about his rival at a Business Insider conference in New York.

As reported by CNET, Horowitz accused Facebook of “jamming ads” in order to create revenue, saying that the social network does not work the way the real world works, and even throwing a dagger at Twitter, adding that people do not have conversations of 140 characters or fewer.

Horowitz said, as reported by CNET:

In designing Google+, we keep thinking about the real world, the way people actually are. We’re trying to make a product that’s ergonomic for the way our attention is wired.

Jamming ads and agendas into user streams is pissing off users and frustrating brands, too. That’s not the way the world works.

(Google doesn’t) have to make payroll by jamming users with ads (on Google+). We aren’t struggling with how to monetize. We have real plans.

We aspire to be a place where people can have uncluttered, meaningful connections. Communication is important. Like in the real world, context is important … It’s never fun to be late to a market, but it does afford us the opportunity to talk to users to see what needs aren’t being met, what they like and don’t like.
